Very few original examples of Lira da Gamba exist. The two instruments in the Musikinstrumentenmuseum Leipzig probably have necks and peg boxes that are not the originals. Preceding WW2, there had been a third instrument of which only parts remain, notably the neck and the peg box along with an an overall photo. Our photo shows a copy of the Lirone by Gasparo da Salo and the insert below shows a reconstruction of the lost instrument.
